I am professor of philosophy of education and educational theory at TU Dortmund University as well as guest professor at the Vrije University of Amsterdam. Having travelled to India regularly in the last 25 years I have a long-standing interest in Indian philosophical traditions. Based on my engagement with these traditions I aim to develop new and more global perspectives on key problems of the Philosophy of Education, among others, related to issues such as critical thinking, autonomy and the self.

I am associate professor of philosophy of education at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Much of my recent work has been devoted to the educational importance of wonder, and in future work I intend to expand my underlying interest in how we experience and relate to the world by focusing on the meaning and role of attention. I hope to find inspiration in various global philosophical traditions, and from conversations with others, more at home in those traditions.

I am an assistant professor at VU Amsterdam in the field of philosophy of education. In my research I engage in issues of privatization and educational justice – an issue that presents itself globally. Furthermore, I am interested in critical thinking in vocational education; critical thinking, with its many different conceptualizations, is one of the key problems that could benefit from bringing together different philosophical traditions in dialogue, as envisaged in this project.
